What’s My Favorite Nighttime Ritual?

A cup of rosebud tea just before bed.

A delicate bit of heaven to soothe you to sleep, this tea is best served hot.  Be sure not to over-brew or it develops an unfortunate aftertaste.

Brew 5-7 dried rosebuds for 1-2 minutes in 8-10 oz of water.  I usually get my rosebuds from little tea stores and tea houses in Chinatown.

Another delicious treat to make with your new rosebud stash?  Create a rosebud infused simple syrup (be sure to strain the buds from the simple) for use in cocktails with champagne and muddled strawberries.  Yum.

Fermentation overdose

Tasting six new flavors of bucha kombucha on an empty stomach with zero sleep and lingering sickness?  Worst idea ever.  Loopiness is taking over.  But… at least I finally discovered a Kombucha that agrees with me.

I’ve been living on massive doses of Coconut Kefir… per Shelley (who I trust whole-heartedly when it comes to anything health-related) it will help me on a journey I am taking in getting myself back into tip top shape and just generally more happy about myself.  Kefir is kind of gross.  But makes me feel good… so I drink it.

BUT when the bucha rep promised me his product would rid me of my disdain for kombucha I had to try it.  If only to prove him wrong.

I got served.

Delish.  Especially masala chai and verbena rose.  Mmm.  Just a tad worried about sugar content.  Time to do some research.

Now on to my polenta pizza.

I can’t stop drinking almond milk tea mistos (teastos?).  English Breakfast in the morning, Lavender Earl Grey in the afternoon, and… Rishi Organic Peach Blossom in the evening.  That’s what I’m drinking as we speak.  Thinking Plum Berry  for tomorrow night.  Nina!!!  This is all your fault.

1/2 cup H2O
1/2 cup almond milk (I use unsweetened)
1 tea bag or 1 tbsp loose leaf tea
1 tsp raw sugar

Boil the water/almond milk combination (or just throw it in the microwave if you’re lazy but as my GM says, microwaves are an abomination.  Or maybe she says they’re sacrilegious.  Either way, I tend to agree with her and avoid them at all costs – except on nights like tonight when I’m feeling tired from spending an hour on the elliptical), add the raw sugar for a touch of sweet and brew until your heart is content.  Since I don’t have an attractive picture of my teasto, I’m sharing a picture of the tea jar instead.

Brother/Sister Time

Pteebs is back in town for a month over summer vacay and I couldn’t be happier.  Check us out and our gigantor Whole Foods sammies (they have the best sammies).  Did you know Thomas Kemper now has a blood orange soda?  Killer.
