Love Poems

Look at what my mom and I picked up in Big Sur…

love poems

A beautifully designed book for a beautiful collection of poetry.

But First, Coffee

Lazy Sundays are delightful (not that this Sunday has been particularly lazy) but I’ve gotten a pretty nice Sunday rhythm going for myself.

I wake up and go to yoga, then on my way home swing by the farmer’s market for some produce and then about 1/2 of the time I’ll also treat myself to a delicious wild Alaskan salmon sandwich from the SF Grill’s booth.  Today was ridiculously cold so the lovely Frenchman who always wears the most awesomest stunna shades in the world let me stand by the grill and warm my hands thankyouthankyou Frenchie.Anyway, as per usual I digress. Usually by about 3 pm on Sunday I get a little shaky and a little tired and realize whoops this little panda hasn’t had any caffeine today so I whip up some sort of delicious coffee treat – the kind you only make when you have a little extra time on your hands.

Sometimes it’s just a regular latte (I really need a frother those things a killer) but today oh man I went a little cray cray and made myself a little mocha and it went a little something like this:

nomnomnom

1. brew a cup of coffee (i use this, an x-mas gift from little teebs last year)
2. warm up 1/3 cup milk
3. combine warm milk with 1 tbsp hot chocolate power
(tcho drinking chocolate is my favorite, it’s just absurd it’s so delicious – i used to like scharffen berger but then hershey’s bought it and now it blows)
4.  pour your piping hot coffee into your chocolate drink mixture
make sure to pet your kitty a little during this process, she has a tendency to get a little jealous when you’re paying attention to anything but her
5. take a little sip of your delicious drink and BAM taste a little piece
of heaven in your mouth

Oh and, you might notice to the right of my coffee concoction a little spray bottle and let me tell you that stuff is my favorite.  It’s the Durance en Provence
Brume d’Oreiller (pillow perfume) in Tisane du Soir (evening herbal tea) that I bought in Paris years ago.  If I’m having some trouble going to sleep, or am just feeling the need for a little something special, I give my pillows a little spritz and off I float into dreamland.

Sunday Farmer’s Market Flowers

A very, very strange thing has happened.

yellow spider mums!!!

It is warm and beautiful in San Francisco… in January nonetheless!

the windowsill creatures are in complete enjoyment

And this little monster is taking FULL advantage.  Yoga + farmer’s market (+ a salmon burger nomnomnom) + milky tea + open windows + my new pen nibs + inks = a sunny Sunday dream

look at all of the new nibs + inks i get to play with!

Glitter Sparkles and a Little More Glitter

This girl loves herself some glitter.  And not in a cheesy “Hi I’m a 5 year old girl and I like to sprinkle glitter on everything” kind of way.  Ok, maybe a little bit in that way, but come on people how is life not made so much better by sparkles.

I realize that makes me sound like a total twit but I swear to god I’m not.  I just love glitter and sparkles (and anything metallic, particularly gold… or chrome nailpolish).

It just makes everything so much better!

That being said, I thought it would be fitting to share with you two of my favorite new(ly discovered) blogs/websites that feed off of my love for all things sparkly.

First off, Glitter Guide.

Who doesn’t love a website that shares 7 Ways to Add Sparkle To Your Home?

i want a house to myself just so i can do this

And shows you how to make things like this?!

oh em gee amazing

A curmudgeonly Grinch. That’s who.

Next up, The Beauty Department.

The answer to your beauty questions that you for some reason haven’t yet asked me since I obvs know the answer to like, um, everything (winkyface).

Hello DIY mixed-metal nails!

totally doing this for NYE

You’ve gotta love a website that encourages glitter-loving ladies to take a screwdriver to your curling iron and transform it into a curling wand.

And honestly, this site makes me actually kind of really like Lauren Conrad.
Who would have thought?

It’s Christmas at 1257

Just look at the amazingness Nick put together

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

I’m Back

I think. Kind of. I’m not sure.

I went through this weird period where I got, well… bored I guess is the right term… of taking pictures of food and writing about food and just kind of documenting my foodieness (which btw is hilarious because that word seems to be loathed far and wide by everyone in the food industry, food critics especially, those lovable grumps).

Anyway. I haven’t been cooking much. I’ve been on this weird quasi-quesadilla trip and that’s really all I want to eat for dinner every night with a load of spinach on top. And avocados. And hot sauce. Man that sounds disgusting but I promise it’s not.

There I go on yet another tangent.  The point of this is to say that recently I’ve been exploding with creativity and all I want to do is paint and poke holes in things.

I thought as a hello I’m back move I’d share a sneaky peek of the type of thing I’ve been doing.

Imagesometimes you just want to paint inside the lines

Yes I realize I just colored in some things with paint but that’s what I want to do.  And I’m really happy about it.  And I’m really happy playing with color combinations and not really worrying about what I’m doing.  And I like painting feathers.  So there.

I’ve also decided to make some bags.  For reals this time.  I just need an awl and a chisel so I can poke some holes in some leather.  That’s what I mean by I just want to go poke holes in things.

I’ll post some pics of the bags in process once I’m more… there.

Thank you Cassandra for leaving me some leather. You’ve inspired me.

I Want to Live Here

Have you heard of Big Things?  Well, I hadn’t (wow I feel out of the loop – I still know more about what’s happening in LA than in the Bay Area) until Refinery29 did this great piece on Rebecca Goldschmidt and her house in Oakland.  Seriously.  Unreal.

I want to be her friend.

I also need to head out to Oakland more.  So many rad things! Big things!

I Love Little Parties

Kinfolk – A Guide for Small Gatherings.
Heart.

Makes me want to host more mini parties.

And eat dinner in my garden.  All the time.  Please warm up San Francisco!  My heart is breaking.

And I have so many updates – from my parents visit, to IndieMart this weekend… tonight I’m getting on it.

Get excited people, I’ve been slacking.

I’m blaming it on what the fog does to my psyche.  I think I need a sun lamp.

Swooning + Sighing

The Bokja Furniture + nuLOOM collab is on Gilt… and… and… I’m swooning.  Ok, I’m swooning over one piece in particular.  Most of them are a little too much for me.  Too much of what I’m not sure, just too much.  But this whimsical little tuft of fluff is delishtful (delightful + delicious = delishtful. obvs.)

yum

Too bad it’s WAY out of my price range or I’d scoop it up in a hot minute, put it underneath the trellis in my garden and sit there all day long, reading a hardcover Penguin Classic, drinking a Rhubarb and Rose Ramos Gin Fizz, wearing a perfectly floppy straw hat, shaded by a plethora of purple wisteria.

Le sigh.

I Really Want a Teepee

Like, really really.  I’m kind of obsessed with them.

But my ideal would be this one… as designed by Alice Temperley.

swoon

Erin says I’m being impractical.
Me? Impractical? Never…
